▶ CHARACTER
NAME: Lord Haurchefant Greystone (of the Silver Fuller)
CANON: Final Fantasy XIV
CANON POINT: Post-Vault, Pre-Estinien is a dragon
AGE: 28
BACKGROUND: here
PERSONALITY:
Haurchefant was born standing out from the rest of the Ishgardian nobles. Not only because he's illegitimate ('Greystone' is the name given to bastard children - a simple pebble to be tossed aside, or so they say), but because he has always been open minded, optimistic, and cheerful. Not to make the rest of Ishgard out to be cold and gloomy but ... it can have a reputation for being cold and gloomy for many of its inhabitants. Haurchefant has always stood out from the crowd as a man of vibrant colors where everything else is black and white.
You will rarely catch Haurchefant in anything but a good mood. When in a dire situation, he will still attempt to be optimistic through it all and will never give up easily. He has a penchant for poetic words and flattery, and his actions can be mildly flamboyant, something any and all who have met him have commented upon. He is especially flowery around warriors of light and foreign adventures, having welcomed many of the likes through his camp where others would be wary or impulsively lock their doors up tight. Haurchefant loves Ishgard and is very loyal to it, but he believes in an Ishgard for all and wholeheartedly accepts the idea of becoming part of the Eorzean Alliance once more. He will never turn away good help or intentions and glady shows his gratitude where it's due.
For the most part, it is easy to read Haurchefant. When he's distressed, you can tell. When he's flirting, it's more than obvious. He's outright and upfront about what he wants and is absolutely not shy. When he was a boy, he joined Francel de Hallienarte, a noble's son, for dessert without question despite having been banned from the party. As a man, he is known for being open about his preferences and indulgences, and even has handsome elezen soldiers training shirtless in his office. The English version of Haurchefant was toned down because of the forward advances he will make on the WoL regardless of gender. Needless to say he knows what he wants. He will never shy away from praising those he feels deserve it (and there are few he does not believe worthy of praise!) or expressing his admiration. He's extremely extroverted and will always make the best of any situation.
The reason for this is because life has not always been sunshine and rainbows for Haurchefant. While loved by his father, his step-mother the Countess despised him and did everything in her power to remind him of his place as an illegitimate son and the one and only indiscretion of his father that she never really forgave him for. He was barred from social engagements, kept away from most other noble children and families, told he would never be anything, and even denied the family name despite his father wishing to bestow it on him. He had darker times where he questioned his own worth or felt lesser than others because of being a bastard. Often times growing up, he felt he had much to prove. That is part of why he trained tirelessly even though he was not offered any official outlet for that.
He decided to be a knight because he believed in the noble knight's duties: to protect and do good by others. To make Ishgard the finest kingdom in any realm by being righteous and good. Even in his 28th year, he implores his father to allow him to carry out these duties because they are what he was born for. On that note, he did train himself, and he trained himself well. So determined was he to become a knight, that learning combat and defense was forefront on his mind for much of his youth. As such, he became very strong and skilled in weaponry and even tactics. He also became a bit reckless as he was so intent on protecting the innocent, weak, or simply his dearest friends. Troublesome though it could be, that very recklessness got him his official knighthood. In his older years he's a little more cautious, but not much. It's just he usually has more of a plan now than when he was younger. He would do anything to protect those he loves or what he believes in. He took an arrow to the arm for Francel when he was kidnapped (the incident that got him the knighthood) and he takes a cruel bolt of lightning to the chest, ultimately offering his life for the sake of the Warrior of Light and what they stand for (hope). Even in that moment, he insists that you smile for him because it suits you better. And he has no desire to bring others pain or sadness.
Having experienced loneliness in his youth, the feeling of not belonging or not being good enough, Haurchefant ensures that all whom he meets know their worth and do not wallow in any sorrow that would hinder their dreams or progress. He's friendly, he's accepting, he's supportive but not overbearing. Haurchefant is the ideal ally and one who easily makes his way into the heart. He praises the Warrior of Light as a beacon of hope, but he himself is a light in a dark, dark place, even when you think the light has gone out.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Haurchefant does not have any "powers", per se, he is simply trained in weaponry and combat. His profession is that of a knight but he was training long before his knighthood was awarded. He is particularly skilled in swordsmanship.
